# Art50 > Art50 creates tamper-evident records of human review for AI-assisted content. Each record names who reviewed a piece, when, and who holds editorial responsibility for publishing it, then seals it so it cannot be altered afterwards and can be verified by anyone, including someone who does not trust the publisher. Built for the transparency obligations in Article 50 of the EU AI Act. Hosted entirely in the EU. Art50 is operated by Human Oversight Laboratories, founded 2026 by Viktor Arato (CEO) and Marco Garzia (COO). Art50 records that a human review took place and makes that record independently verifiable. It does not determine or guarantee legal compliance, and nothing on the site is legal advice. Art50 is permanently free for journalists, newsrooms, registered charities, NGOs, civil society organisations and public authorities, and applications go through the contact page. Key facts about Article 50 of the EU AI Act, since these are the points most often got wrong. Article 50 is not a general duty to label everything made with AI. It contains four separate obligations with different addressees. Article 50(1) requires providers to design systems so people know they are interacting with an AI. Article 50(2) requires providers to mark synthetic audio, image, video and text in a machine-readable format. Article 50(3) requires deployers of emotion recognition or biometric categorisation to inform the people exposed to it. Article 50(4) requires deployers to disclose deepfakes, and to disclose AI-generated text published to inform the public on matters of public interest. The text obligation in Article 50(4) applies only to text published to inform the public on matters of public interest. Ordinary marketing copy is generally outside its scope entirely, so no exception is needed for it. Where the obligation does apply, Article 50(4) contains an exception for text that has undergone substantive human review or editorial control where a named natural or legal person holds editorial responsibility for the publication. The Commission's Guidelines state that spell-checking, grammar correction, the mere existence of an editorial policy, and cursory approval without substantive engagement all fail to meet that standard. Article 50 applied from 2 August 2026. Deployer obligations under 50(3) and 50(4) had no transition period. Marking obligations under 50(2) for generative systems already on the market before that date run to 2 December 2026, and watermark-detection interoperability to 2 February 2027. Penalties reach 15 million EUR or 3 percent of worldwide annual turnover, whichever is higher, enforced by national market surveillance authorities. The Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, published 10 June 2026 and confirmed adequate in July 2026, is voluntary. Article 50 itself is not.
